Module 4:
Individual Reflections 1

In Round 1 of the Stakeholder Challenge Proposal, I had the privilege of serving as the Design Leader for Team 1 alongside my teammates Reva Lobatos and Xiao Li. Reva took on the role of Stakeholder Leader, and Xiao provided invaluable support as the Support Leader. Our team’s proposal, which Reva initiated, centered around evaluating teachers through online systems, a significant topic in K12 education. In turn, we received a proposal from Team 2, which focused on the need for greater parental engagement with children's learning management systems.
This first round of the challenge was a transformative learning experience for me, particularly in understanding how to navigate the complexities of stakeholder engagement and collaborative problem-solving. From the very start, I recognized that addressing diverse perspectives and finding consensus required strong communication skills, adaptability, and an openness to evolving ideas. Through the challenge, I encountered several moments of growth that ultimately helped shape my approach to the next phase of the project. Our team worked in a highly professional manner, strengthening our collaboration and reinforcing the importance of working cohesively to achieve our goals.
One of the most critical lessons I learned was the importance of aligning our proposal design with the stakeholders' priorities. Initially, I found it challenging to balance my original ideas with those brought forward by other team members. Additionally, I was unfamiliar with certain aspects of K12 education, having never worked in that sector before. This challenge became more pronounced when we received a proposal from Team 2, which dealt with parental communication issues in K12. Navigating these different perspectives was initially overwhelming, but it was a valuable learning opportunity that taught me the importance of flexibility and active listening. Over time, I began to view proposals as living documents, constantly shaped by feedback from my teammates. Embracing this approach allowed me to adapt more easily to iterative changes and improvements, and I realized that the success of a proposal depends not only on presenting our ideas but also on ensuring they resonate with the needs and concerns of stakeholders.
Another significant insight I gained was the importance of clear and accessible communication. Much of the feedback from the teammates emphasized the need to simplify our language and use concrete examples to convey our message effectively. This was particularly challenging when dealing with technical or specialized content, as it required us to translate abbreviations and jargon into terms that a broader audience could understand, such as those that English is not their first language. Moving forward, I will prioritize clarity in our proposals and designs, ensuring that they are both detailed and easily understandable. This focus on clarity will be central to my communication strategy in the following challenge round.
As I prepare for Round 2, I am eager to build upon the lessons learned in Round 1. I plan to incorporate stakeholders' and teammates' feedback more strategically, streamline the proposal revision process, and maintain a clear vision while continuing to adapt to our audience's evolving needs. These experiences have provided me with valuable insights, and I look forward to applying them as we progress in the competition.
